Ria Sandenbergh

Ria qualified as a physiotherapist from the University of Pretoria in 2001 and received her Masters Degree in 2004 in Sport Medicine form the same institution. She has completed courses in chronic pain, dynamic and kinesiotaping as well as dry needling.

She has worked in both out-patient and hospital practices and is the owner of PhysioFirst. She worked in school sport for 13 years, but is not actively involved with teams anymore – preferring to spend more time with her 3 daughters.

Annami was born in Pretoria, but has lived all over South Africa while growing up. She received her B.Sc. Physiotherapy degree from the University of the Free State in 2011. She loves playing and watching all types of sport. She played provincial hockey right throughout her school career, and continued playing at University and Club level.

In her final year at Kovsies she worked as one of the on-field physios for the Shimla’s Varsity Cup and 7’s team. She has also worked as a physio at various ultra-marathons ranging from the Skyrun to the Comrades. She moved back to Pretoria in the beginning of 2019 after working in a private practise in Jeffreysbay, Eastern Cape for 5 years.

She has completed multiple Sports injuries and Taping courses. She has been trained in the McKenzie method for lumbar spine pathology and hopes to become a fully qualified McKenzie therapist one day. She has also recently completed an in-depth Running injuries management course which focussed on all the latest research and trends.

Annami is part of the Sport Physiotherapy group and enjoys working with active individuals. She believes in a holistic approach to all treatments – understanding that our physical condition and performance is always influenced by multiple factors. She is a hands-on physio that enjoys working in partnership with her clients. She is proficient in dry needling, facial and spinal mobilization.

Her special interest are sports/running injuries, neck and back treatments and rehabilitation. She always believed in a balanced lifestyle and tries to live life to the full. She travels as often as possible having visited 42 countries so far…planning to reach 50 soon. Some of the trips had a medical focus and the highlights include providing medical care for Syrian refugees in Jordan, training caregivers that work with disabled kids in Kyrgyzstan and presenting physical training at Russian summer camps.

Every patient is evaluated at the first session to establish where the root of the problem is and decide on a treatment plan. Exercises and rehabilitation are part of every series of treatments.

I firmly believe if you understand why we are teaching you an exercise that you are more likely to actually do the exercise. Knowledge and understanding also lessens fear – just by understanding why you have pain actually makes it less painful!

The motto of the practice is TREAT • PREVENT • EDUCATE and we try to live up to that.

Special interests:
